Windows Subsystem for Linux

By | 10 Aug 2017

A little bit of a wet dream, true Linux BASH on Windows??   It just can’t be..  Well it is with the introduction of the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).

WSL Distro's as of 8 Oct 2017

Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, and SLES are available today in the Insider Preview builds of Windows 10.  With WSL coming out of Beta in the upcoming Fall Creators Update release, hopefully even more Linux distributions will get behind it (as it is reported Fedora is soon to be added).

Adding native Linux shells to Windows may turn heads for development and power users/admins, but time will tell what the adoption rate will be like and if workflows are improved.  I for one am pretty excited!
